ABN stands for Australian Business Number and the first step to register a business is the ABN registration. An ABN is a unique 11 digit number that identifies your business or organisation for the government and the community. The ABN is not a replacement for TFN. A TFN identifies your business as a tax registered & tax paying entity while an ABN identifies your business or operations as an entity providing services or goods or both. If you wish to avoid having amounts withheld from payments to you for your work, an Australian Business Number (ABN Registration) is required. Similarly, it is also compulsory to have an ABN if the business collects Goods and Service Tax (GST).
Our fee for an ABN registration is $110 for sole traders and $165 for companies, trusts and partnerships. The fee also includes GST, PAYG, FBT and FTC registrations if applicable to your circumstances and we shall be able to advise accordingly. We do not charge for the other registrations if they are carried out at the same time as the ABN registration.
With the help of an ABN registration you can:
• verify your business’s identity to others when ordering and invoicing.
• avoid witholding tax on payments owed to you.
• claim Goods and Services Tax (GST) credits.
• claim energy grants credits.
• avail an Australian domain name.
